Three Unique Eco-Friendly Tips

Posted on 1:43 AM, under

When it comes to being environmentally friendly, many tips are rehashed over and over again. "Reuse paper, don't let your faucet run while brushing your teeth, take showers instead of baths..." You've heard the same tips more times than you can count.

Instead of using these cliche tips in this blog post, I've decided to make the effort to be original. Here are three unique tips that will help you lead an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

1. Got Any Fish?

First of all, no, I am not suggesting that you use your dead fish's carcass to make compost. Anyway... If you do have live fish, you also have an aquarium or bowl filled with water for that fish.

To protect your fish from disease, you probably change the water in your fish's aquarium or bowl every so often. Instead of throwing the water out, use it to water your plants or to rinse the tank filter.

2. Soda Bottles

Do you love, love, love soda? The average American drinks 56 gallons of soda per year, which leads me to think that just about every American does. Obviously, some of this soda comes from the can instead of the bottle, so the average American does not throw away 212 soda bottles per year. But a lot of soda does come from 2-liter bottles.

Instead of throwing these soda bottles away, use them to make crafts. You can turn these bottles into plant holders or you can adorn and use them for decoration.

3. Personal Digital Assistants

These days, most people are trying to get their hands on the latest smartphone or blackberry instead of the latest cellphone. Unlike a desktop, you can use a PDA anytime and anywhere. If you're like me, you probably get the urge to look up something multiple times a day.

Most likely, this "something" will only take a few minutes (or even a few seconds) to look up. If you need do to do something that won't up a lot of time, try to do it on your PDA instead of a PC. Not only will it save you a lot of time, but it will also reduce the amount of electricity you use on a daily basis.

Brainstorming ways to be Eco-friendly is simpler than you think, especially if you're the creative type. Try identifying problems and thinking of environmentally friendly ways to solve them. Within a few days, you'll probably have a ton of new ideas to try out.
