When setting goals, you may wonder - should one set lofty goals or more reasonable goals? Most people would argue that it's better to set reasonable goals, anything else would be just setting yourself up for failure. Well, have you ever heard of this saying?
"Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars."
~ Brian Littrell
What Are Lofty Goals?
According to Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, something that is "elevated in status" or "superior" is lofty. Therefore, a lofty goal is a shoot-for-the-stars type of goal. People who set lofty goals want the best for themselves. All-or-nothing people.
Examples of Lofty Goals
- Become a Millionaire
- Own an Industry Giant Business
- Earn and Maintain a 4.0 GPA
- Earn a Master's Degree
- Become a Doctor
- Learn 20 Programming Languages
- Earn $10,000 a Month
Think about it, if your goal is to earn enough money to rent out an apartment, that's the only thing you'll get. If you're ultimate goal is to purchase and pay off a 5-story house, you may not accomplish that goal. However, you may end up with a 2-story house instead, which is much better than an apartment.
Even if you don't accomplish your lofty goal, you will still accomplish a lot. If you set a goal that's easy for you to reach, you won't feel very proud of yourself, because it took little to no effort to accomplish it.
When it comes to goals, always try to challenge yourself. With challenging goals, you'll feel motivated to pursue them. If your goal was to go from earning $10,000 a year to $200,000 a year, and you topped out at $180,000 per year, would you beat yourself up? No! You'd be proud of yourself, if anything.
Despite what everyone else says, I say, set lofty goals. Don't be afraid of disappointment, and you'll accomplish a lot in your lifetime.
2012 is approaching, which means you should be thinking about possible New Year's resolutions and whether you accomplished the resolutions you made earlier this January. Chances are, you didn't accomplish the resolutions you made for 2011, and you definitely aren't alone. Most people, for one reason or another, never follow through with their goals.
Here are some reasons why you aren't reaching your goals, and how you can get past these troublesome obstacles.
1. No Time
Between work, school, and parenting, most people feel like they have no time for anything else in their lives. However, most people who feel this way have no problem finding time to watch T.V. and chat on Facebook.
The problem isn't that you lack time to accomplish your goals. You're not accomplishing your goals because you're wasting time on less important things, such as entertainment. If your goals truly matter to you, then you'll find time to accomplish them.
2. No Motivation
Most people feel motivated about their goals, but when they start taking the steps to reach them, the motivation quickly dissipates. The things you must do to accomplish your goals won't always be fun. Therefore, you must force yourself to do these tasks instead of waiting for the inspiration that may never, ever come.
3. Analysis Paralysis
Do you spend more time researching and thinking about your goals than actually taking action? If so, you may have a case of "Analysis Paralysis."
There are two steps that you must take to accomplish your goals. First, you must plan, then you must take action. People with "Analysis Paralysis" are stuck in the planning stage. Lots of planning is necessary if you want to accomplish your goals, but too much planning will do you more harm than good.
If you ever feel like you're planning far too much, stop, and take the first step towards your goals.
Worthwhile goals are always difficult to accomplish. Hopefully, by removing the obstacles between you and your goals, you'll accomplish your 2012 resolutions.
If you play Neopets, chances are, you've come across a player who seems to have everything and more. They have an entire collection of expensive paintbrushes for their pets, as well as a whole set of paintbrushes for their petpets.
Believe it or not, these people most likely didn't cheat to get millions of neopoints. They earned their neopoints the legit way -- by mastering the art of restocking.
What is Restocking?
The majority of Neopet players have no idea what restocking is. Granted, they are the players who slave away at games to earn neopoints, all the while jealously eying the possessions of restockers. Anyways, restocking is when you buy an item and sell it at a higher price to profit. The amount of profit can be anywhere from a hundred to millions of neopoints.
Cool! How Do I Get Started?
First things first, you need to earn some cash to start-up your restocking business. Play games to earn about 12,000 neopoints. You will use up 2,000 neopoints to open up a shop and upgrade it. The rest of the money will be used to stock up your shop.
Go to Neopia Central and bookmark the Books Shop, the Pharmacy, and the Food Shop. As a beginner, the easiest things to restock are books, food, and medicine.
Open up each shop in a new tab. Refresh the Food Shop until you notice new items in the shop. Purchase all items that come in quantities of five or less. After purchasing some items at the Food Shop, move on to the Book Shop, and finally the Pharmacy.
Go to the Shop Wizard and look up the prices of each item. Stock your store with the items you bought. Price your items according to the Shop Wizard. You want your item to cost slightly less than all the other items, so your item will sell first.
What Do I Do Next?
For now, all you can do is wait for people to buy your items. You can retrieve your money from the Shop Till of your store. While waiting, continue restocking, so you can have a continuous flow of income. Don't wait until your store is empty to restock.
Despite the fact that you're beginner, you'll notice that there is much more money in restocking than in playing games. If you stick to restocking, you'll have enough money to purchase that coveted paintbrush in no time!
Animal Crossing: City Folk is an excellent choice for anyone who wishes to purchase a game for the entire family. Controls and game play are simple yet addictive for even the youngest of players. However, earning enough bells for the first rent payment seems to be a problem shared by many beginners.
In Animal Crossing for Nintendo Wii, you control a character that moves into a town full of animals as neighbors. After completing some tasks for Tom Nook, a shopkeeper, he will give you a small house to live in. With the items that you collect or buy, you can decorate your new home how you see fit. Tom Nook, the greedy merchant that he is, didn’t give you this house for free.
In City Folk, you pay the mortgage for your home at any time you wish. To coax you into paying quickly, Tom Nook will give you a home upgrade with each payment until you’re done paying for your home. Your first payment is a whopping 19,500 bells.
So, how can you earn these so-called bells? By fishing, growing trees, and capturing bugs, of course!
Fish and Bugs
Depending on the season, you will be able to catch different types of fish and bugs with a fishing pole or net. The more rare or difficult the catch is, the more it’ll be worth. You can even catch a Tarantula during the summer and fall if you put your mind to it!
Fruit Trees
On your first visit to town, you should see three fruits hanging on certain trees. This fruit can be apples, oranges, peaches, pears, or cherries. If you shake the fruits off the trees, you can sell each piece of fruit for 100 bells. You only need to gather 195 pieces of fruit for your first rent payment!
Selling for Cash
Once you have some fish, bugs, and fruit to sell, all you need to do now is pay a visit to Tom Nook. As a shopkeeper, he also needs to purchase wares if he wants an inventory. For each item you offer, he will give you a fixed price. From there, you can either keep the item or sell it.
Your first payment shouldn’t be too hard to reach, but the next one will be even harder. And if you think reaching that payment is hard, just wait until you have to pay 500,000 bells for your last house upgrade.
Animal Crossing: City Folk is addicting simply because of all the things that you can do. Adults and kids alike feel delighted when they accomplish seemingly impossible goals such as getting the final house upgrade. Luckily, you will accomplish these goals quicker than you can believe if you enjoy fishing, catching bugs, and collecting fruit.
When it comes to being environmentally friendly, many tips are rehashed over and over again. "Reuse paper, don't let your faucet run while brushing your teeth, take showers instead of baths..." You've heard the same tips more times than you can count.
Instead of using these cliche tips in this blog post, I've decided to make the effort to be original. Here are three unique tips that will help you lead an environmentally friendly lifestyle.
1. Got Any Fish?
First of all, no, I am not suggesting that you use your dead fish's carcass to make compost. Anyway... If you do have live fish, you also have an aquarium or bowl filled with water for that fish.
To protect your fish from disease, you probably change the water in your fish's aquarium or bowl every so often. Instead of throwing the water out, use it to water your plants or to rinse the tank filter.
2. Soda Bottles
Do you love, love, love soda? The average American drinks 56 gallons of soda per year, which leads me to think that just about every American does. Obviously, some of this soda comes from the can instead of the bottle, so the average American does not throw away 212 soda bottles per year. But a lot of soda does come from 2-liter bottles.
Instead of throwing these soda bottles away, use them to make crafts. You can turn these bottles into plant holders or you can adorn and use them for decoration.
3. Personal Digital Assistants
These days, most people are trying to get their hands on the latest smartphone or blackberry instead of the latest cellphone. Unlike a desktop, you can use a PDA anytime and anywhere. If you're like me, you probably get the urge to look up something multiple times a day.
Most likely, this "something" will only take a few minutes (or even a few seconds) to look up. If you need do to do something that won't up a lot of time, try to do it on your PDA instead of a PC. Not only will it save you a lot of time, but it will also reduce the amount of electricity you use on a daily basis.
Brainstorming ways to be Eco-friendly is simpler than you think, especially if you're the creative type. Try identifying problems and thinking of environmentally friendly ways to solve them. Within a few days, you'll probably have a ton of new ideas to try out.
